Alfred Storck

Studied economics, focusing on accounting, auditing, company taxation and international tax law at the University of Mannheim (Prof. Dr. Dr. Otto H. Jacobs). Serving as associate professor, he completed his Ph.D. in international tax matters in 1979. In 1980 he became a qualified tax consultant in Germany. After various consulting and industrial appointments, he became the Group Tax Officer of the ABB Group, headquartered in Zurich, in 1988. Since 2003 he heads as Deputy CFO the Group Function Finance and Taxes at ABB Ltd. Mr. Storck is a member of the Tax Committee of the Business and Industry Advisory Council (BIAC) at the OECD and the Fiscal Affairs Working Group of UNICE.

 

 

Birgit Stürzlinger

Born in Wels in taxplanning.shtml 1982. She completed her studies in international business administration at the University of Vienna. In 2006, she became assistant professor at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and has lectured there since 2008. In her research she focuses particularly on international tax law and accounting tax law.

 

Franz Sutter

1998 graduation summa cum laude from the Law Faculty of the Vienna University and entry into the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law of the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) as Assistant Professor; from 2001 to 2002 Member of the Legal Service of the Federal Chancellery (Bundeskanzleramt-Verfassungsdienst) responsible for the representation of the Republic of Austria in written procedures before the Austrian Constitutional Court and the European Court of Justice in tax matters; before the ECJ also pleading appearance in the oral procedure; 2003 scholarship of the Austrian Academy of Science for his doctoral thesis on EC State Aid Law and Taxation that has earned several international scientific awards after its publication in 2005. Since 2004 adjunct University Lecturer in Vienna and since March 2001 Austrian Correspondent of "European Taxation". 2006 entry into the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, since 2008 Deputy Head of the Tax Policy Department, responsible - among others - for Constitutional and European Law issues and procedures.

 

 

Ben Terra

Ben Terra (1947) studied international law at the University of Amsterdam and (indirect) taxation at the University of Leyden. He has written a thesis on 'VAT on cross-border transactions'. Ben was head of the post-graduate training in VAT, customs and excises at the Ministry of Finance in the Hague, professor of law at the University of Leyden and visiting professor at the Universities of Florida in Gainesville, of Sydney in Australia, the Gmimo University in Moscow and the Anton the Kam University in Surinam. Until 2003 he was head of the E&Y global indirect tax practice. In 2007 he became doctor economiae honoris causa at the University of Lund in Sweden. At present he is professor of law at the Universities of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Lund in Sweden.

 

Servaas van Thiel

Born in the Netherlands in 1956. Since 1987 Professor in international taxation at the Postgraduate LL.M Program on international legal co-operation of the Free University Brussels and since 2003 Director of that Program. Since 1988 official of the European Union (European Court of Justice and EU Council of Ministers). Prof van Thiel presently works for the EU Council in Brussels (Head of the Tax Policy Division) and in the Geneva Liaison Office to the UN and the WTO (Counsellor). Since 2003 he occasionally acts as a Judge in the Regional High Court of Appeal of s'Hertogenbosch (Netherlands). He was senior researcher at the IBFD, editor of the VAT monitior and ad hoc consultant to the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the UN Centre for Transnational Corporations and the IBFD task force on China.

 

 

Otmar Thömmes

serves as Global Managing Partner of Strategic Clients at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. The main focus of his role is on generating high quality service to clients the world over. As such, his responsibilities cut across all Deloitte member firms. They apply to supporting innovation, strengthening industry practices, and identifying leadership and cross-border management strategies. He began his career at Deloitte at the German member firm more than 20 years ago. Since then, he has held national and global positions, including a two-year assignment at the European Commission in Brussels. An authority on international tax law, he has served as a Global Lead Tax Partner for a number of major clients, such as DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Bank, and Siemens. A Doctor of Jurisprudence and Honorary University Professor, he speaks frequently at educational institutions and leading international client conferences on a range of topics.
