Gustavo Weiss de Resende
Gustavo is a post-doctoral teaching and research fellow at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law. He holds a doctoral degree from the Max-Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance and the Ludwig-Maximilians University, in Munich, Germany, where he wrote his doctoral thesis entitled “An Answer for Aggressive Tax Planning with Intangibles - Analysis of royalty deductibility barriers and other anti-avoidance measures against BEPS on IP”. During the development of his thesis, he was furthermore an academic visitor at the Centre for Business Taxation of the University of Oxford, in England. He also obtained an LL.M. in International and European Business Law, with a focus on International Tax Law, from the University of Munich in 2018. He graduated from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in Brazil, with a bachelor’s degree in law and has been a member of the Brazilian Bar Association since 2016. Furthermore, he has experience working for international organizations in the field of tax and public policy such as the OECD’s Global Forum and the European Commission’s Legal Service – Budget/Customs/Taxation division. He has been doing research on and published in the areas of international, comparative, and European taxation.Courses:
Master thesis 2026/2027 full-time program - workshops
These workshops are directly linked to the introductory class on the general topic and will be held while students are working on their Master’s theses. The participants are introduced to the techniques employed in writing an academic piece of work. Support will also be given on methods of research, using international literature, and its systematic review. Students have the opportunity to show the results of their work in the form of presentations, and to initiate discussion and debate on the topics concerned. The problems which are presented in the final thesis will be discussed in class and possible solutions sought.
